Current Positions Available
The Public Relations Society of America Suburban Chicago is seeking a PR intern to assist in developing materials for ongoing activities and chapter development. Responsibilities include developing promotional materials for chapter events, writing white papers and news articles for the chapter website, contributing to and executing recruitment strategies and tactics and writing news releases.
The intern will work closely with the chapter president in order to exchange ideas and get feedback for his/her work. Because of this, the intern will have the opportunity to assist the chapter president with her own startup virtual PR agency, QuickSilver Edge Communications. These responsibilities include assisting with the development of agency promotions and the business side of things, with the potential of performing duties for the agency’s clientele.
This is not a paid internship. However the schedule is flexible, requiring the intern to be present two days a week that will work for both the intern and the president. Telecommuting is also acceptable when coming in isn’t realistic on a given day. The type of work assigned is chosen to meet the intern’s experience requirements, that is, to “fill in the gaps” in order to assemble a full, career-ready portfolio.
Requirements:
- A bachelor’s degree in some area of communications (Public relations, journalism, mass comm., etc.)
- Experience writing in AP style
- Familiarity with social media (Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)
- Ability to commute to the south side of Chicago
Bonuses:
- Ability to attend monthly Tuesday night chapter meetings
- Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite
- Previous experience with PRSA or PRSSA
- Ownership of a personal computer
- Being a dog person!
